Contributing to the promotion of peace and development in the Horn of Africa
The British Council has been awarded a €1m grant contract to manage the EU-funded Horn of Africa youth leadership project.
The project’s overall objective is to contribute to the promotion of peace and development in the Horn of Africa, through a pilot project involving youth across South Sudan, Sudan and Ethiopia.
Aims of the project
The project will aim to build and increase resilience to conflict in the three countries through capacity building of civil society organisations and the establishment of a youth coalition supporting young people and communities in the Horn of Africa to better contribute to the region’s future.
Specifically the project will:
- Support the establishment and development of a youth-led coalition for the Horn of Africa region, representing youth voices on issues that relate to youth development and empowerment.
- Empower young people from 20 target communities in Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia to become more engaged in community-based actions that promote peace and reconciliation.
